Our Story

From Connection to Clarity

IIC Firm, short for International Intercultural Consulting Firm, was founded in 2019 as a training and consulting company to help people centered and global organizations connect and collaborate and lead more effectively across differences.  At the time, the firm was a natural next step in the work of Dr. Christen Behzadi, a physician, author, and intercultural strategist whose writing and speaking explored the dynamics of cross-cultural connection. Her work was deeply inspired by her own experience after marrying her medical school classmate Pedram Behzadi,  navigating life, marriage, and connection across cultures.

That’s how International Intercultural began: as a consulting and training firm focused on improving how people work together. From global corporations to local municipalities and mission-driven institutions, our early work centered on helping organizations invest in their people, strengthen leadership, and build healthier team cultures through learning, facilitation, and professional development.

Our Evolution: 

From Training to Full Service Learning Partner

At IIC Firm, everything starts with diagnosis, but that wasn’t always how corporate training worked.

As we began working with organizations through IIC’s early consulting work, we noticed a recurring pattern: training was often launched without first understanding what problems it was meant to solve. Programs were developed in isolation from the people they were intended to help. As long as the content was inspirational or checked a box, it was considered “complete”, regardless of whether it created real change. Follow-up (beyond net promoter scores) was an afterthought. Evaluation was minimal. And learning initiatives, while well-intentioned, often failed to deliver meaningful results.

Coming from a background in medicine, Dr. Christen Behzadi saw the issue immediately. As a board-certified anesthesiologist, she was trained to assess precisely, respond quickly, and identify the underlying cause before prescribing any solution. In clinical work, you don’t guess-you diagnose. And she realized that same discipline was missing from many corporate learning programs.

This realization shaped the next chapter of IIC Firm. Dr. Behzadi significantly expanded the team and the firm’s capabilities to meet the full spectrum of modern organizational learning needs. Today, IIC Firm includes a cross-functional global team of data and business and AI analysts, learning architects, instructional designers, trainers, e-learning coders, and  implementation consultants. Under Dr. Behzadi’s leadership, we partner with clients to assess, plan, design, and deliver learning initiatives that are aligned, measurable, and built for lasting impact.

We’ve evolved from a boutique consultancy into a full-service learning company—providing diagnostics, strategy, facilitation, digital learning, and AI-powered coaching.
